Shannon Frye, teacher at Lincoln Elementary, reached out to Ferradermis about creating some tools to help Lincoln kindergarten students with their pattern block puzzles. CAD Subteam Lead Zoe Olson and team member Chacha Binagi began to make plans to design and 3D print cookie cutter type frames that would allow students to have a physical border around the outside of the shapes they were making with their pattern blocks. Getting the size just right proved to be the largest challenge; the outlines needed to be slightly larger than the paper pattern, but not too large. This project, spearheaded by Chacha, allowed him to develop his skills with both Autodesk Inventor and the team’s new 3D printer. We are grateful to Mrs. Frye for her feedback throughout the iterations of this project, and we are excited to see the frames in use!
